Duke Energy careers in energy vampires
A year after the company’s energy vampire, Duke Energy’s careers in the energy vampire have taken another step forward.
Duke Energy said Tuesday it had hired the former director of the American Nuclear Society to work in its global strategy and regulatory affairs.
The new director of operations will oversee the company in its bid to expand its footprint into the emerging global energy industry, which has been growing rapidly.
“We’re proud of what we’ve achieved in the past year, and we’re confident that we can achieve more as we continue to scale our business globally,” Duke CEO Jim Rogers said in a statement.
The hiring comes at a time when Duke has begun to focus on diversifying its portfolio.
The company has made an aggressive push into renewables and solar power.
The U.S. has about 6% of the world’s installed solar capacity, according to SolarCity, a solar installer based in Reno, Nevada.
That’s the highest share of any U.N. member state.
The United Kingdom has more than half of the global installed solar power, followed by France, Germany and Japan.
The number of renewable energy installations in the U.K. grew about 10% in 2017 from the previous year, according a recent report from the Solar Energy Industries Association.
But while the U, S. and Japan are the leaders in the renewable energy market, there are growing signs that China is catching up.
China installed about 1,000 gigawatts of solar capacity in 2017, more than the U to the U of Japan and more than Japan to Germany.
That is expected to rise to more than 2,000 GW in 2018, according the SolarEnergy Industries Association, which is based in Palo Alto, California.
That includes more than 500 GW of solar power in the United States, according an estimate from the GreenTech Alliance, a nonprofit group that works to promote green technologies.
China has also overtaken Germany as the world leader in solar power generation.
The country has been building and operating more solar power plants and has about 20 GW of installed solar generating capacity, or about 4.5% of its total capacity, by 2020, according data from the International Energy Agency.
That means it will surpass the U as soon as 2020.
Germany is in the process of building a solar park in the city of Düsseldorf, which it has dubbed the “largest solar park of its kind in Europe.”
The park will provide 100 million euros ($115 million) to help the city to develop its renewable energy industry and boost its economic competitiveness, said Jens Schreiber, director of energy at the Green Economy Ministry in Dünstorf, Germany.
The solar park will help the German government build a reputation as a green power hub, he said.
China is also investing heavily in renewable energy, and it plans to build another 1,300 gigawatts in 2020, which will double its solar capacity by 2020.
It also is expanding its efforts to promote its electric vehicle and electric-hybrid technology.
The World Bank recently released its annual report on energy and the environment.
In it, it called for the world to become a “global leader in clean energy.”
