When the Duke Energy logo was stolen: The energy industry has been fighting back
Duke Energy was the target of a series of cyber attacks that shut down Duke’s online presence, according to the company.
The attacks targeted Duke Energy’s website, email and social media accounts, and targeted the company’s email and phone system, according the company, which has more than 1,600 employees.
The company’s corporate office was also hit with a massive distributed denial-of-service attack on Monday.
On Tuesday, the company posted a statement on its website that the attacks were not related to the ongoing investigations into the company for its actions in 2016.
“We take these attacks very seriously, and we are working closely with the authorities to determine who was responsible and to identify who was behind the attacks,” the statement said.
The Duke Energy website has not been restored as of Tuesday evening, and the company said it would provide updates as soon as they are available.
The company said in its statement that it is working with law enforcement agencies in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, as well as with its U.S. subsidiary.
The cyber attack came two days after the company announced plans to purchase more than 2.5 million shares of common stock.
A Duke Energy spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
